TOC IV

Tournament of Champions IV – Sunday, Jan 23rd, 2000

We had a total of 104 players at this event or 52 teams. This matched the first TOC last Jan. One of the most exciting things to me was that there was only 142 people that qualified for this TOC under the new rules, yet we had 104 people show up to play.

This was an amazing 73% participation rate. Hope it stay that high from now on out. I guess the 10 game play rule makes it so everyone feels that if they are going to spend the time to qualify, they might as well play in the TOC when they have the chance. NOW to build up the number of qualified people over the next 4 months.

The total Prize Money for the TOC-4 was $2,032. The Purse was $1,200 and the Entry Fee prize money was $832. This did not include the door prizes, chalker prizes and misc. extra monies for the ladies top three positions.

Plus lots of misc. dart equipment, and scratch off tickets were given away as Chalker prizes. Thanks everyone for your help in chalking. Hopefully, all the players chalked at least once. HAHAHAHA, that’s a laugh. Most of the chalking is usually done, by just a few dedicated and smiling faces.

My personal Chalker of the Season Award (a pat on the back and “you go girl”) goes to Suszi Gagnon. Thanks Suszi, your continuous support of the game.

Director’s Notes:

Well, as most of you are aware, I was not there early in the morning to get things started and hadn’t been running the nightly tournament for a couple of weeks. On the morning of Jan 8th, I had a massive heart attack. It caught me quite unprepared, as I thought I was immortal. Well, guess what folks, if it wasn’t for the Grace of God, competent and very quick paramedics and fireman, I would have died in the hallway of my home. There were huge Tombstones on my EKG when the firemen first arrived.

For some reason, I made it to the Emergency Ward of Medical City and through the Surgery. The doctors went up through my groin area, through the artery and used a balloon to open the completely clogged artery called the “Widow Maker”. They used TPA and other anticlogging and roto rooter drugs to clean out the artery and then put in spring coil called a “Stint”. They knew what they were doing and SO I am still alive. PRAISE GOD AND THE KNOWLEDGE HE HAS BESTOWED ON MANKIND. I’ll be back!!!!!!

The TOC Crew of James White, Mike Kasper, Kevin Whiteley, Alex Schaer, Chuck McGee Jr, Carron Farrell and a number of helpful individuals insured the standards were up and ready to go by 12 noon. When I got there at 1pm with Sara, everything was ready to go, except putting up the prize posters a few small details. THANK YOU GUYS AND GALS FOR YOUR HELP PUTTING THIS TOGETHER. THERE WAS NO WAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE WITH ALL OF YOU. THANKS.

At the start of the tourney, the bar’s microphone was not working. So, the TOC crew had to YELL at the top of their lungs and still that was inadequate. With 104 players, plus spectators the din in the room was quite loud. Praise God, they got the mike working within an hour and a half. So, the rest of the day progressed fairly smooth.

A SPECIAL THANK TO ALL OUR FRIENDS FOR THEIR GENEROUS DONATIONS TO SARA AND MYSELF, AS WE HAVE UNDERGONE THIS VERY DRAMATIC AND HEART RENDERING & REPAIRING EXPERIENCE. SINCE WE DON’T HEALTH INSURANCE, YOUR DONATIONS HAVE COME IN HANDY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. NOW IF I DON’T HAVE ANOTHER HEART ATTACK WHEN I RECEIVE THE HOSPITALS AND DOCTORS BILLS, MAYBE WE CAN ALL HAVE FUN PLAYINGS DARTS FOR YEARS TO COME.

Thanks Again!
